Testing testing...Philippians 4

So today officially begins it. We sent our application to Gladney, and this morning we did the phone interview. Now we need to fill out a longer application, and begin a huge gigantic paperchase that will result in us getting a baby girl or a baby boy - tentatively named Bethlehem (Beth) or Gideon (??) - in Spring of 2011.

After we fill out that longer application, we will write our first check.

Today Judy from Gladney went over the costs for us. First $300 here, then $660 here, then $2,225 here, then $1,550 here, ad nauseum...and I got a little lightheaded. After the phone call, my emotions ranged from giddy with anticipation to dizzy with panic.

Only an absolutely crazy fool would look around at our too small for us, messy, damaged home full of very young children, and say, "Let's go to Africa - AFRICA - and get another one. No clue how we're gonna pay for it. But there are orphans who need families - and family is the one thing we've got. Let's do it."

I am that fool.

And let me tell you, with tears in my eyes, how my soul praises the Lord I am married to just as big a fool. A fool who holds my shaking hands and says, "God's gonna provide, baby. No worries."

For as long as I can remember, it has been my soul's desire to do only three things: get married, have babies, and adopt orphans.

How blessed am I that in Walker, God has given me not my soulmate, but my Spirit mate.

And what just occurred to me is this: this adoption will cost almost exactly as much as our wedding did. Oh, how the Lord encourages me!

Let's do it.
No worries.
God's gonna provide.

I had the exact same thoughts when we started our adoption. It's scary isn't it? But, just like you, I have always wanted three things - to be a wife, be pregnant, and adopt. God has provided thus far - I know He will continue!

Every last dollar was provided for our adoption...and we knew every dollar came from the Lord in a miraculous way. But it was definitely something that made me anxious during the wait so I understand. God is so good to give you both a united purpose in your marriage to adopt Beth or Gideon (??) into your family! :) I'm so excited for you!

You all are so awesome...

in a crazy sort of way. : )

If God supplies the desire, He will supply the means.

What do the kids think of this?

Blessings all over all of you.

You. Are. Killing. Me. We're not even as far in our journey as you all are, but the desire is there. And it's Africa on our hearts, too. Can't wait to hear more and go through this with you via the interweb! Hugs!

God is SO faithful. He's gonna prove it to you during this journey your jumping into. He knew what He was doing putting you and Walker together, and I know He will provide for this sweet little baby to come into your family.

One of my best friends has a little guy named Gideon. Love it.

1 - we are NOT awesome, God is awesome, we're just obeying

2 - the kids are pretty psyched. They all love babies, every single one of them LOVES babies. They can't wait.

We are in the adoption process right now and if I sit and "think" too much about the money I will about throw up. I am just trying to trust that HE will provide when it is time.

I know exactly what you are going through with all the paperwork. It will be worth it though!!!

My friend adopted through Gladney 9 years ago and just yesterday we were talking about her daughter and how wonderful it is that my friend and her husband adopted her and have given her such a good life. Her birth mother would be very proud.

I admire what you are doing and will pray that God continues to bless you abundantly on your path to finding your little one.

He WILL provide, and just when you need it, and not a minute too soon, and not a minute too late.

We did not even have enough to send in the $250 for our application fee. And we are done with the adoption now and have LEFT OVER money. God provided EVERY SINGLE CENT. Truly amazing. He will provide in your obedience! And when you hold your sweet babe all that crazy running you do w/paperwork will all be worth it. Can't wait to follow your journey!!!

Beautiful post! I had to smile as my kiddos wanted to name our fourth child, Bethlehem....we went with Catherine GRACE.....but love that you are saying Beth!

May God's hand guide your adoption process and bless you and this sweet child waiting on you!!

Congratulations!! You'll be blessed beyond measure and you'll forget about the cost... I wish my hubby would consider adoption, but so far it's not on his list of things to do...

Congratulations! As a friend of mine said when she began the adoption process, You're pregnant on paper!!!

Missy, we are adopting domestically through a local agency that works with crisis pregnancies. It will probably be a biracial infant girl, but we don't know that for sure.

You are so right...God is gonna provide! I'm so excited to hear about how He does.

Congratulations on completing your interview! I wish I had a miraculous story of how God provided every cent for our adoptions . . . I do have some stories (of very generous family members who helped), but we took some equity out of our house for our current adoption, and are doing other non-glamourous things to pay for it. We are still moving forward, knowing He will take care of us . . . but wondering when our house will ever be paid off, or exactly how many loans our children will have to take out for college!!

But, looking at our daughter, we know He meant for us to do this, and to do it again. I just wanted to reassure you that even if you don't have miraculous tales about finances, you're still smack in the middle of God's will. :o)

Nancy

At the risk of sounding like my grandmother, "Bless your sweet heart, Missy!"
My heart just leapt and my eyes teared up reading about the FAITH that is evidenced as you and your husband take the first steps in this process.
I cannot wait to follow along with you in this...and see the fruits of your obedience.

so proud of you and your sweet hubby. Just keep trusting.

Just starting the process at pretty much the same stage as you. And your words about your husband could have been mine also. AND, "I am that nut" also. So glad to have found your blog, I'll be checking back!

Oh yes He will. I promise. He promises...which is even better. But I promise too.

I love you!!!

That's wonderful. I was adopted as a baby, so anything adoption-related has a special place in my heart. God bless y'all on the journey, and provide abundantly for your needs.

God will honor your step of faith. Once you step out, He will rush in a fill in with the rest. I look forward to following your journey and seeing Him glorified in this situation.
